Chris rode a mega training session on Sunday starting at 1.30 in the morning and finishing just before noon. He completed 201.8 or 56 laps in 8 hours, 55 minutes and 33 seconds, comfortably above designated pace. One and a half hours was lost to a little roadside maintenance for a fellow rider.
Chris averaged 26.2 km/h giving him a total ride time of 7 hours, 42 minutes and 45 seconds. The rest of the time – 1 hour 12 minutes and 48 seconds was spent refueling. He consumed 2 gallons of water, 1 gallon of Gatorade, three egg, ham and cheese sandwiches, four slices of banana bread, two quarts of coffee and 2 quarts of bubbly water. His average heart rate was 126 with a max of 147 when he “pushed it” for the last 45 minutes. He burned 4185 calories.
“In the last 45 minutes I wanted to see if I could hit 200 km before the 9 hour mark so had to push it,” said Chris. “I did about 32 (km/h) into wind and 38 (km/h) with and my heart rate was never below 140 that whole time.”
A number of Support Riders joined Chris throughout the morning.
